Thank you to all the parents for everything that you have done this year!

If you would like to make a conference to discuss your child’s progress or other concerns you might have, I am available for conferences during the PE time (check the green schedule sheet in your child’s binder). The only exceptions are Tuesdays and Fridays due to meetings. I am also available after school on certain days from 3:15 - 4:00 p.m. Send me a note or e-mail so we can schedule a conference time.

FLUENCY passages for homework:

We have Fluency passages for homework. These passages will go home 3 nights per week. Here's what you need to do: Let your child read the passage one time to figure out all of the unfamiliar words. Next, time your child for one minute and count how many words he/she reads correctly. Time your child 2 more times; he/she should improve each time. When your child is finished, he/she should have read it at least 4 times. If they want to read it more, please let them! Research has shown that students need to read something 7 times in order to master it; however, 4 times is sufficient for these fluency passages. Please sign your name somewhere on the passage and send it back with your child. These signed passages will be taken for a grade!!!

AR -

Students need to be taking at least two AR tests each week. Please make sure your child is reading AR books each night. Please fill out the AR folder for them each time they read and note when they are ready to test. The highest AR test scores will be counted as a class work grade each week. If your child does not test, he/she will receive a zero for the grade and will be on the fence at recess the next week reading their AR books until they take a test. Please encourage them to test!
